Early bud (digital illustration) by UszatyArbuz Early bud (digital illustration) by UszatyArbuz

It supposed to be a quick speedpaint as a break between Halloween themed paintings but... it took me quite long time for a speedpaint, I guess around 6-7 hours at least. And I'm still quite happy about it.. for me it looks like a head of the sparrow cut out from a photo and pasted into the quite hideous painting

Yet, I'm happy enough to put my watermark on it :P

Glad, I finaly found some time to comment on this! :D
It realy shows how much you have grown as an artists so far.

I love the great use of depth of field in this one. :wow:
Bluring out things in the background realy helps to focus the viewer on the subject.

Unfortunately, I find the proportions of the branches vs. the buds in the background to look a bit off compared to the branch in the foreground.

The anatomy of the bird is unbelievably well done.

I find the markings on the bird's throat to miss some texture you used in other places though. :P

But the other textures look very realistic especialy on the plant and the bird's feet. :)

What throws me off a bit is the silhouette of the bird's feathers.
The feathers from neck to wing remind me more of hair but the feathers on the other side look very smooth.
I think somewhere inbetween would be the right way for feathers from such a tiny bird.
One thing I find helpfull to understand a subject is to knowingly feel it. (Hope I'm making sense.)

The colours you chose remind me of a cool fall morning bathed in cold light.
The light spots keep the picture from getting too dark.

One thing I have noticed is that you like to center your subject in nearly all of your bird drawings.
It has a calming effect which can be what you were aiming for. (Not sure if it as intentional though since it is also more focused on the subject as intended in studies.)
I recommend reviewing the rules of third to create more action in your drawings.

I must say this is your best bird portrait so far!
Looking forward to seeing you improve even more.

Sorry; not sorry; for the long comment! :XD:

Glad, I finally found some time to reply :B

You may not believe it but for me it's one of my least favorite and worst painting  It really highlight things that I have most problems with, that is background and "hair-like" feathers as I call this type of feather.
It's funny because I created this one in very early October but had chance to submit it a month later, and till now I did like three more paintings and personally see how I improved comparing to this one.

For example you're right about the branches in the background - they are too big or something, but I found really easy way to blur stuff in the background nicely  I don't know if I even should change the main file here to fix it or not? Maybe I should leave it unchanged to go back here in teh future and see the improvement... anyway backgrounds were always really hard for me to do.

And I still haven't found out how to do the style of the feathers like you see on his body. They should look like short hair, I have studied a numerous of stocks and photographs but I can't get it to look how I see in my head :P

And yeah I noticed that I tend to center the object too :D So I did two newest paintings in different way. They are still scheduled but you can find them on my Society6 already ;) And I plan to do more of them like that, I think they look more interesting. still searching for inspiration on what birds should I do next :D

To sum up. Thank you for your comment and advices, I appreciate that but I'm scared of long comments. XD

Sorry to scare you.

I got this with my photographs right now. Submit old ones first or the newer ones I like better first? :noes:
I might do a mixture of both. :giggle:

It's good to come back to old art from time to time.

Gosh, I saw the new paintings! :wow:
I can't wait to fave them both~

I just have too many random stuff to submit and I don't want to submit deviations everyday. Once every twoo-three days is too often for me personally as well, but this way I have only one month of scheduled artworks up front.... :B

:la: I really like them! Especially the hummingbird. It's so colorful :B

Yeah I think it's the best feature that Core offers, along with using journal skins ^^;

Definitely, but I think seniors can use journal skins even if they don't have a CM. :P
